Eco-Activities is a one-woman business run by Wendy Hitchcock offering a dynamic range of creative, thought-provoking and enriching educational plant, biodiversity and art classes, courses, field trips and workshops for school children, teachers and adults. Courses are practical with lots of hands-on activities. All courses aim to highlight the importance of biodiversity and encourage participants of all ages to appreciate the world around us. Eco-Activities offers practical, interactive lessons including skills-based activities in and outside the classroom.

FynbosWendy Hitchcock - Owner of Eco-Activities

Wendy is a qualified botanist, teacher and environmental educator with a passion for Fynbos and art. She loves finding creative ways to help people learn about plants.. Many years of experience in environmental education qualifies her to provide an outstanding educational experience four you. She loves teaching and working with people to share with them the many wonders of nature.


She has a wide range of interests and has worked in many different spheres including teaching biology at high school level and Environmental Education at Gold Fields Environmental Education Centre, Kirstenbosch. Being self employed, she is now able to combine her considerable artistic talents and environmental knowledge in the variety of courses and classes offered by Eco-activities to people of all ages.
She grew up in Zimbabwe and came to Cape Town to study botany at UCT thirty years ago and now lives and works in Cape Town.

Through creative and thought provoking activities based in nature Eco-activities aims to:

  • Create an understanding of human dependence on biodiversity and healthy ecosystems for all our needs
  • Connect people to themselves, other people and the earth through creative activities that generate a feeling of self-worth and collective responsibility for the well being of our environment
  • Nurture and develop each person’s unique creativity through activities based in natural environments that can help with healthy personal development
  • Highlight personal lifestyle choices that can make a difference to keeping our environment healthy and able to sustain healthy ecosystems for the benefit of all the worlds inhabitants now and in the future
